0️⃣ Zero Conditional
IF + present, present
Use: General truths, scientific facts, habits
💡 "If you heat water to 100°C, it boils"
💡 "If I wake up late, I miss breakfast"
Memory Tip:
Both parts use PRESENT tense. Always true!
1️⃣ First Conditional
IF + present, WILL + verb
Use: Real future possibilities (likely to happen)
💡 "If it rains tomorrow, I will stay home"
💡 "If you study hard, you will pass"
Memory Tip:
Real future = PRESENT + WILL. Likely to happen!
2️⃣ Second Conditional
IF + past, WOULD + verb
Use: Unreal/imaginary present or future (unlikely or impossible)
💡 "If I won the lottery, I would travel the world"
💡 "If I were you, I would apologize"
Memory Tip:
Unreal = PAST + WOULD. Dreams & imagination!
Special: Use "were" for I/he/she/it (If I were rich...)
3️⃣ Third Conditional
IF + past perfect, WOULD HAVE + past participle
Use: Unreal past (impossible to change now - regrets)
💡 "If I had studied, I would have passed"
💡 "If she had left earlier, she wouldn't have missed the train"
Memory Tip:
Past regrets = HAD + WOULD HAVE. Can't change it!
🔀 Mixed Conditional
IF + past perfect, WOULD + verb
Use: Past action → Present result
💡 "If I had studied medicine, I would be a doctor now"
Past event affects present situation
IF + past, WOULD HAVE + past participle
Use: Present situation → Past result
💡 "If I were braver, I would have asked her out"

🔑 Key Tips:
- • NEVER use "will" in the IF clause (❌ If I will go... ✅ If I go...)
- • Use "were" for all persons in Second Conditional (If I/he/she were...)
- • "Unless" = "if not" (I'll go unless it rains = I'll go if it doesn't rain)
- • Can use modals: might, could, should instead of will/would
